Notes
The Modern Expansion artifact was one of the most significant contributions to the understanding of the impact Mary Shelley's work had on the world in regards to films and plays. The photographic timeline depicts the path that guided the novel though history to make it what it is today. I thought it was important to add this to the study of Mary Shelley as most people will remember the films of Frankenstein, rather then the significance of the literary work in its original form. In addition to pointing out how the story has come to be known world wide to this time and date, I also thought it showed the migration the story has taken due to the difference interpretations and representations over time. Hollywood contributed to the largest part of the change to the story line, yet without it the work might not have been as known as it is. The artifact depicting the timeline of how the story of Frankenstein became world wide through the film industry is one of the key developments of the horror film industry.
The Wanted Posters were something creative and fun that I believe would bring some interest into the very knowledge filled history of Mary Shelley. The posters represent the main character in Mary's most famous work Frankenstein, that has held her in the top writers of Britain. The depiction of the characters from such an old fashioned novel placed in a more modern context provided the perfect amount of contrast to increase of creative development the characters have undergone. While the poster is more eye catching then paragraphs, there are informative pieces on the posters that I hope will inspire readers just enough to get away from the Hollywood depiction and dig into the literary work that hold so much depth to it. I created the posters not only for the purpose of informing but also the prove a little touch of my own creativity into the web page.
The Letter Mary Shelley received were important to add because they provided a view from inside of Mary's personal life. The biographies and essays written about Mary Shelley's life are informative and great, yet they lake the true feelings and emotions that were tide to Mary's personality. The inside view in the letters provided shows the interactions between her father, showing the true feelings towards the relationship of father and daughter. The other letter from a friend show the complexity of Mary's character and thereby the iterations between a more loving relationship, which lacked in her youth.
The last artifact the poems are there to represent how even though her most famous work is Frankenstein is was still an accomplished woman writer of her age. The poem I chose, in my opinion, reflected key scenes in her life mostly dealing with some type of tragedy, as her life was a series of them. The poems though they are dark and more negative reflect her self taught well read education, her abandonment and her coping towards the tragedies that surrounded her life. Mary Shelley lived in the shadow of her two inspirational figures which where her father and her husband Percy. They poems depict both of these peoples impact of her life and share even more insight into the famous novel of Frankenstein and its themes.
